In September 2023, My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 came out in theatres. In contrast to the previous 2 movies, part 3 is mainly filmed in Greece. If you have watched it, you might want to visit the prime filming locations. That’s why this blog discusses the main filming location of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 in Greece. They contain Google Maps links and descriptions to make it easy for you to find them.
In My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3, we see some short shots and scenes in Athens (prime spots like the Parthenon and the changing of the guards at Syntagma). Also, some shots of different islands are mixed into the movie. Such as a drone shot of Symi island, and different shots on the ‘vacation’ of Toula and Ian and the search for her father’s friends by her cousins. When we see a beach, it is also mostly not Corfu. The majority of the scenes however, those that concern the village that plays a central role in the movie, were filmed on the Greek island of Corfu. In particular, on 3 locations. So that is what this blog will be focusing on. However, at the end of the blog you’ll find some more filming location in the Athens Area.
After at least 40 visits since I was 1 year old (1994), I can confirm that Corfu is one of the best and most diverse Greek islands to visit.

Danilia village is a traditional and very picturesque Corfiot village that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. It was then completely rebuilt and now functions mainly as open air museum, event and filming location. In ‘My Biy Fat Greek Wedding 3’, this place is used for most of the scenes that take place in the ‘village’ of the late grandpa, Constantinos Portokalis. Unless you see a drone shot of a village on a hill, or them sneaking through alleys. In that case the shots have mostly been recorded in an actual inhabited Corfiot village (see below). It is not the first time Danilia has been used for a famous film or series. Many scenes in ‘The Durrells in Corfu’ were filmed here, as well as James Bond’s ‘For Your Eyes Only’. The village is owned by the Grecotel Imperial resort in Kommeno, who used to offer tours to the place for guests (and non-guests if you ring them up). However, they opened up Danilia to the public again, including a cafe on site. At the moment (summer 2023) the price to enter is € 10 per person, but you can spend those € 10 in the cafe-restaurant. Keep an eye on the Grecotel website and Google Maps
The village on a hill with a church with red top on its tower we see in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (mostly drone shots and shots of Toula and Ian looking at a view from a balcony), is Varypatades. This is an actual inhabited village in central Corfu, that you can easily visit. Throughout the film some other shots that we see have also been recorded here. We see the corner of one of Varypadates’ alleys and the tiny square with a metal bench on it.
In ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’ we often see a very winding road that (in the movie) leads to the village the film is all about. This road, is the road to Sokraki village on Corfu. A spectacular sight! Would you dare to drive up or down?
