Filming locations of ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’ in Greece – Where exactly was the movie filmed?

Danilia village

Danilia village is a traditional and very picturesque Corfiot village that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1953. It was then completely rebuilt and now functions mainly as open air museum, event and filming location. In ‘My Biy Fat Greek Wedding 3’, this place is used for most of the scenes that take place in the ‘village’ of the late grandpa, Constantinos Portokalis. Unless you see a drone shot of a village on a hill, or them sneaking through alleys. In that case the shots have mostly been recorded in an actual inhabited Corfiot village (see below). It is not the first time Danilia has been used for a famous film or series. Many scenes in ‘The Durrells in Corfu’ were filmed here, as well as James Bond’s ‘For Your Eyes Only’. The village is owned by the Grecotel Imperial resort in Kommeno, who used to offer tours to the place for guests (and non-guests if you ring them up). However, they opened up Danilia to the public again, including a cafe on site. At the moment (summer 2023) the price to enter is € 10 per person, but you can spend those € 10 in the cafe-restaurant. Varypatades

The village on a hill with a church with red top on its tower we see in My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 (mostly drone shots and shots of Toula and Ian looking at a view from a balcony), is Varypatades. This is an actual inhabited village in central Corfu, that you can easily visit. Throughout the film some other shots that we see have also been recorded here. We see the corner of one of Varypadates’ alleys and the tiny square with a metal bench on it.

Sokraki

In ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3’  we often see a very winding road that (in the movie) leads to the village the film is all about. This road, is the road to Sokraki village on Corfu. A spectacular sight! Would you dare to drive up or down?

Other filming locations in Corfu

• The scenes of Ian who meets a Monk living in a tiny house on a beach, were filmed at a beach near Benitses and Angsana resort, this is the exact location.
• The scenes regarding olive oil production were filmed on the premises and in the Olive Oil (Press) Museum of The Governor’s Mill in south Corfu. The same goes for the old olive tree that was shown to be Gus’ favorite hangout as a child.
• The vineyard we briefly see is Theotoky Estate.

Filming locations in and around Athens

• Seen from the vehicles the different family members are traveling in upon arrival, we see different famous sites such as the Parthenon on top of the Akropolis, and Syntagma (the changing of the guards).
• The shopping scene in the movie where Toula and aunt Voula get drunk, isn’t shot in Corfu but in Plaka, Athens.
• The beach the family takes a swim on is Rafina beach next to Athens’ Rafina port.
• The ‘party scene’ where the kids sneak out at night to to to a club, takes place at Bolivar beach bar in Athens.
