It’s Like a Time Machine

Step into Kambones 1615 and you’re stepping into history! Unknown exactly when it was built and by whom, but it for sure existed in 1615 when Maria Calvo (from a noble family of Venetians) married Michel Sanudo (who was not a nobleman but very rich). Because Sanudo was not noble, the house does NOT have the ornaments on top of every corner of the house you see on other Venetian towers of Naxos. This was reserved for nobility only.

The house took 20 years to restore. The thick stone walls not only narrate tales of the past but also keep the house cool in summer and warm when it’s chilly. No heating or airco needed. It’s like living in a comfy, cozy time capsule!

Most of the furniture is restored antique furniture. Not only the furniture is restored, tons of other wooden elements have been re-alived and kept in the house. On which you can read more in this informative blog. Keeping the original door also meant keeping the original key, which is an extremely large piece of metal compared to today’s keys. This adds an extra special and fun element to opening the door of Kambones 1615.

There are so many other historical fun facts to be found in and around the house. There are 2 churches in front of it, a Catholic and Orthodox church. Cause if you have Catholics and Orthodox they each need a church right!? There are also separate stables for donkey and mules, and 2 holes in the walls near the ‘front door’, one of which fits a donkey saddle and the other one fits a mule’s saddle. If you look closely, in front of the front door there’s a hole in the marble on the floor. The hole was used to crack nuts in before eating them. And the list goes on and on…

If you are interested in more facts about the history of Kambones 1615, just ask the owner, Sophia. She literally is a walking Encyclopedia and bilingual (English – Greek). She speaks many other languages fluently as well.

Romantic Musical Nights or Olive Oil Tasting

If you’re a music lover, you’re in for a treat! Kambones 1615 organizes classical guitar recitals in a the nextdoor historical olive press, offering you a melody of tunes and a slice of Naxos’ vibrant culture. It’s a symphony of sounds and experiences that make your stay musically magical! The local wine and bites are the icing on the cake, and Nikos (the guitarist) plays truly beautiful. Near the premises you can also do an olive grove tour and olive oil tasting, which is extremely interesting. You will realize you knew nothing about olive oil yet!

It’s Good for the Planet

Kambones 1615 is a friend of the Earth! Awarded a certificate by Ecotourism Greece, this house is all about being green and clean. There are several systems in place that make sure any water you used is being re-used for irrigation. In any case, the tap water is drinkable as it comes directly from an excellent spring. So there is no need to buy water bottled in plastic. Also, the shampoos and oher bathroom utilities provided are refillable bottles of a Greek brand. While cleaning the house after your stay, only natural products are being used. This ensures that your stay contributes to keeping the planet happy and healthy. It’s eco-friendly living at its best!

Nature’s best: Awesome Views, Walking Routes and the Relaxing Sounds

Nestled near a valley filled with ancient olive groves, the views from Kambones 1615 are simply breathtaking. The balcony looks out on the mountains and there is basically no one around you. So you can relax here in total peace, hearing only the birds and the trees. Take one of the many walking paths in the surrounding area to discover all the historical sites (such as the Kouroi of Fleri and Faraggi – ancient statues), villages, springs and waterfalls.

Close to Town & Room For Everyone

Need space? Kambones 1615 has plenty! The house is super spacious but sleeps maximum 4 people. It offers a master bedroom upstairs and 2 couches in the salon downstairs that can be turned into beds. There are also 2 bathrooms, both ensuite to the areas that can be slept in. Even though the house is in a ‘remote’ place, the main road is just 2 minutes away and Naxos Chora (the capital of Naxos) only a 15-minute drive. It really is situated in the ‘heart of Naxos’, making it the perfect location to discover the island from. If you want a taverna within a walking distance, you could eat at Kourounochori village. But a rented vehicle really is the better option.

The perfect place for your Naxos’ event and wedding

With so much space in and around the house, 2 picturesque tiny churches on the premises, a courtyard and the restored olive press next door, Kambones really is the best place for any event.
