The best hotels & Airbnb’s in Athens, Greece with rooftop pool and Acropolis view

The best hotels & Airbnb’s in Athens with rooftop pool and Acropolis view

Are you going to be visiting Athens, the capital of Greece? It is a big city with great historical significance. After a day with thousands of steps up and down the hills in the heat, you might agree that you will benefit from having a rooftop or balcony with Akropolis view and a rooftop pool. This way, you can enjoy the sunset and the view of the most famous historical building in Greece, while cooling off in the water. Of course it is not a must when visiting Athens, but it is a big plus.

The good news? There are hotels and other accommodations in Athens with rooftop pool and Akropolis view for basically EVERY budget.

So, I gathered the BEST hotels, suites, apartments and even a hostel for you that meet these conditions. But ONLY the ones that I would consider staying at, because they look fabulous in every way 😊. All titles are clickable and will lead you to the hotel page!

Hostel in Athens with rooftop pool and Akropolis view

YES! Athens has a hostel with a rooftop pool that has Akropolis view as well. So even with a small budget you don’t have to compromise. And of course, a rooftop pool is also the perfect place to meet fellow travelers. The hostel is a 15-minute from the city centre of Athens, and close to several metro stations. In summer 2023 (high season) the price for a bed in a dorm starts at € 18 per night. They also offer private rooms from about € 75, which is as cheap as it is going to get for a private room in a hotel with rooftop pool in high season. Going in winter? They have an inside pool as well.

Hotels in Athens with rooftop pool and Acropolis view

This might not be the most picturesque and ideal located hotel in Athens, because it is a little bit further from the city centre (next to a big road) and you’d have to take a taxi or public transport there. Having said that, the pool is definitely in the top 5 outdoor swimming pools on the rooftops of Athens. It is quite spacious and because the hotel is further away from the Akropolis, the rooftop is high up in the air and gives the most fantastic overview of the city. Also, the rooms are big and the price for a 5* hotel is decent starting at € 190 for a room in high season.

Apart from Coco-Mat Athens BC, it is hardly possible to get closer to the Akropolis while relaxing in a pool than at the brand new hotel The Dolli. Located in the heart of the center of Athens (Monastiraki square), you are literally swimming above the ancient ruins while also watching the Akropolis upfront. The building is a beautiful neoclassical style building, renovate from top till bottom. This makes The Dolli one of the more expensive and luxury hotels at (at least) € 400 per night in winter

‘Stylish urban jungle’ seems to be the theme of this ultra modern hotel with (almost) infinity rooftop pool and Acropolis view. The rooftop looks like a roof garden. Just look at the pictures and you’ll see what I mean 😊! It has a spa and fitness center as well, and could be a good and cheaper alternative to Coco-Mat Athens BC. A similarity to Coco-Mat is that Brown Lighthouse doesn’t have the biggest rooms either. Prices in July start at the very good price of € 125 per night. The only point of critique is that this hotel location is right next to the metro station and the square of Omonia, which is known to not be the best and safest neighborhood of Athens. Especially during the night. If you plan on staying in on evenings or taking a taxi right to the hotel, that shouldn’t be a problem though.

This sister hotel of Brown Lighthouse is also a Member of Brown Hotels and situated in the same area of Omonia. It has jacuzzi’s on the rooftop (which has Akropolis view) instead of a pool. The jacuzzi’s are heated which makes this hotel a good contender for a winter visit to Athens. In winter you can stay here for under € 100 per night (!).

This hotel has a real infinity pool, the best infinity style rooftop pool of all large hotels in Athens. It feels as if you swim ‘alongside’ the Akropolis, of which the rooftop and pool have an amazing view. You cannot have a more central location than when staying in this hotel, which is right behind Syntagma square. The rooms are spacious and have a clean and luxury look to it. With € 300 per night in July 2023 however, the 5* hotel is far from cheap.

The new and modern Neoma is situated in the upcoming and vibrant neighbourhood of Koukaki and the infinity-like rooftop pool has a view of the Akropolis, which is a short walk (10 minutes) from the accommodation. A great location! Since the hotel is attached to the Filopappou Hill, there is lots of green around which makes you forget that you’re actually in a big city. It is not super big, so it still feels cosy. If that’s what you like, it can make this hotel stand out for you compared to the other, larger ones. 😊 Prices start from € 195 in July 2023.

Located in Psirri, Alkima offers a small-scale and not too expensive option for having a rooftop with Akropolis view and a tiny pool to dip in. You can walk to the heart of the center in 5-10 minutes and the price starts at € 100 per night in winter.

This new hotel for sure stands out trough its funky inside design and stretched pool with a view of the Akropolis AND the Lycabettus Hill. Located between Kolonaki and the center (near Panepistimio), you can easily walk to the heart of town. The hotel has an inside pool and spa too, which is a bonus. Prices start at about € 180 per night in winter.

This hotel has been around for a while and became famous because it was once one of the few five-star luxurious hotels in Athens with rooftop pool and Acropolis view. You can therefore expect the traditional very luxurious palace like style. If you want to feel like a King or Queen, this is your go-to. You will stay right at Syntagma square, on an excellent location in the heart of Athens city center. In a hotel that has so many years of experience in welcoming guests into their rooms that they know how to keep you happy. Also, it has all the facilities you might wish for such as an indoor swimming pool, spa centre and fitnes centre. BUT you will probably have to empty your savings account as a room for a night is easily between € 500,- and € 1.500,-.

Athens Flair is a brand new upscale boutique hotel in a renovated historical mansion. Located in Kolonaki, a chique, lively and GREEN neighborhood on the foot of the Lycabettus hill (and great views of it) which is upcoming amongst tourists.
The staff was 10/10 and the breakfast  (order what you want from the menu) on the roof terrace (your private one or the shared ones which are also amazing ) was superb. The only thing you have to know is, it is an historical building with STAIRS. The staff will carry your luggage up but in case your legs need an elevator: difficult. In general, with its uphill streets and staircases Kolonaki is not the place to be for people that have difficulty walking. It is a 15-25 minute walk to Athens city center.

A great budget option (rather cheap hotel for Athens standards) could be the Novus City Hotel. It is a 30-minute walk to the Akropolis but you could easily take the metro which is right next to the hotel. Prices can be as low as € 70 per night in winter! Great value for money.

The name says it all. A fresh looking modern hotel with little embellishments but all the great facilities such a rooftop pool with sun loungers and Akropolis view and a gym. It is located just above Psyrri, just outside the busier areas but on a short walking distance from the center. With € 165 per night in July the hotel is decently priced.

I did not include:

  • Divani Caravel, because its location is not in close proximity of Athens center and the furnishing and price do not compensate for it.
  • Electra Palace, because although it is located in the heart of the most picturesque neighbourhood (Plaka) right next to the Akropolis, I think it’s better to save € 100 per night and stay at Coco-Mat Athens BC or Neoma. This hotel is neither them, neither the Grande Bretagne. There are more spectacular cheaper and more expensive choices.
  • President Hotel, because it is rather far from the center and has a boring, business style furnishing. As if it is an airport or business customers only hotel.
  • The Stanley: Something is off about this hotel in my opinion. I haven’t stayed there, but is has been renovated a few years ago and has now a spectacular rooftop with pool. But the reviews are so mixed, some say that parts of the hotel such as bathrooms aren’t renovated at all. Also, it is not in the center of the center, but a 15-20 minute walk from it, which is still ok. The rooms are decently priced at € 150 for one night in July (2023).
  • Wyndham Grand Athens, because for the same money you can stay closer to the center and have a hotel with a prettier pool. However some of the rooms have an amazing view of the Akropolis (from the window).
  • Mariott Athens, because it is very far from the center. It is actually near the beach, so if you like rooftop pools and you want to stay near the beach this could be a great option for you. There is a regular tram line directly connecting this area with the city center.
  • Lux & Easy Syngrou, because it is a bit further from the city center. The hotel is brand new and STUNNING though so do check it out.
  • Melia Athens, because it doesn’t have that ‘special something’ and is on the corner of a busy crossroads.

Apartments & Suites in Athens with shared pool and Akropolis view:

Looking for more space and the option for self-catering, but still want the pool and the view? I got you covered:

These are very colorful, large suites with self-catering facilities which is a big plus. The rooftop pool is a real infinity pool with a stunning view of Athens (and the Akropolis). There are apartments for up till 8 people and prices for 2 people start from € 175 in July. Unfortunately it is not located in the city center but on a 20-minute walk from Monastiraki.

The Lycabettus Hill is the best viewpoint of Athens and this accommodation is right next to it. So from the side, there is lots of green. The rooms are very modern looking. However take into account that this part of Athens is located on a hill and you’re going to have to walk up and down that hill if you’re not taking a taxi. Also, the rooftop area is quite small and if every guest is out, it will be completely full with little room to spare. But with € 165 per night in July, the price is not extremely high.

Brand new modern style suites on a 15-20 minute walk from the Akropolis. With a tiny pool on the rooftop. Prices start at about € 100 per night in winter.

I did not include:

  • Athina Art Aparments, because it does have a rooftop pool but no Akropolis view, and is located on a 20-minute walk to the center. Great however if you’re looking for a really spacious loft-apartment with rooftop pool.

Apartments & suites with private pool

W O W. Is this the most impressive looking accommodation in Athens? It might just be. The infinity rooftop plunge pool with fabulous Akropolis view is out of this world. It is about € 450 per night in high season and can host up to 4 people, although there is only one bedroom. It is located in the heart of Psyrri which is a vibrant neighbourhood full of local restaurant and bars and on a very short walking distance from the main shopping street and tourist attractions. Perfect for a younger couple that wants to fully enjoy all the sides of Athens!

You’re very lucky if you find any availability for these luxury suites with private hot tub (!) with Akropolis view in the historical heart of Athens, on a short walking distance from the city center. At the time of writing (January 2023) they’re almost sold out till October 2023. Easy to see why, as they’re available in low season from € 250 per night. Perfect for a honeymoon.

This is a brand new, large loft that consists of 2 floors. The great thing is that the rooftop pool has a fence around it. So you can see the Akropolis, but people can not see you. Some privacy guaranteed (this can be an issue with rooftops). Although it is not located in the center, you can walk there in 25 minutes or take the metro which is almost right in front of the residence. You can rent it in July 2023 for € 585 per night.

On the hills in the greenest neigbourhood of Athens (Kolonaki) lies Elegant apartment. Where you can enjoy stunning views over the city. And enjoy a private house with private rooftop and private pool as well, for € 200 per night!

For € 500 – € 600 per night in summer you can rent this MANSION with infinity rooftop pool. It is not located near the city center but it has Akropolis view AND can house up to 8 people which makes it not so expensive after all. So if you want to house your whole family in 1 private accommodation with rooftop pool for a nice price, this is your go to.

Public outdoor rooftop pools

Not staying in a hotel with rooftop pool? At Mavili Beach (not a hotel but a rooftop pool) you can rent a set of sunbeds for the day and stay and swim on the rooftop that looks like a beach. At Deos Athens you can also use the pool in the morning when you have something to eat and drink on the rooftop.
