Are you (thinking of) going to the Greek island of Milos? Pretty good chance one of the reasons is that you saw some pictures of the cutest tiny fishermen’s villages with colorful boathouses. In this blog, I give you a full list of traditional fishermen’s seafront boathouses to stay at in Milos.
These buildings are called ‘syrmata’. They are traditional fishermen’s huts built into the rocks. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, they also served a purpose. They were used as storage areas for boats. The doors of the syrmata are decorated with all kinds of colors. Some syrmata have one floor for boat storage only. Others have multiple floors, of which the top floor was used as a residence. You can only find them in Milos and Kimolos, making it a unique selling point for these islands as a destination.
Imagine staying in such a house during your holidays. Wouldn’t it be a dream? So romantic, and more seafront isn’t even possible. The good news is, more and more of these Syrmata are converted into Airbnb’s.
These accommodations are VERY sought after (mostly booked out completely from very early on in the year). Also, they are definitely not the cheapest option for staying in Milos. Therefore I have added a little index to the list.

I sorted the accommodations based on the settlement they are in.
