The ultimate one-week itinerary to Milos island, Greece

Milos: the ultimate one-week itinerary

Ready to explore Milos island in Greece? With this ultimate one-week itinerary, you will see ALL the best of the island in just 7-8 days. Not just the highlights, but way more. Including all the the beautiful heavenly blue waters, volcanic cliffs and other unique landscapes, quaint and picturesque fishing villages, whitewashed streets and more. Obviously, based on my own experience.

If you want to know more about the places I discuss in this blog (this blog is only a tiny little excerpt), want more activities and beaches, get some exclusive discounts, road trip routes, practical info and tips on where to eat: get my 103-page Milos Travel Guide.

Day 1: Arrival and Exploring Adamas, Pollonia or Plaka

On day one you will arrive at your accommodation, which will most likely be in or around Adamas/Adamantas, Plaka or Pollonia. So the best thing is to unpack and unwind and start your journey exploring the town you’re based at.

  • Adamantas: Visit the Haralambos church, and have a swim at Papikinou or Lagada beach. As the sun sets, take a leisurely stroll along the harbor, and have an amazing seafood dinner at for instance Mikros Apoplous.
  • Plaka: Have a relaxed swim at your hotel pool (if you have one). Roam through the alleys of Plaka late afternoon, and watch the sunset from either Utopia Cafe, or after a walk up from the Plaka Castle.
  • Pollonia: have a swim at Pollonia beach, and a seafront fish dinner at Yialos!
  • Sarakiniko: alternatively (this is what I did as our accommodation was closeby), visit Sarakiniko beach during sunset time and enjoy the marvelous colors.

Day 2: Sarakiniko Beach and Northwestern Milos

  • To the moon and back: Head to the iconic Sarakiniko Beach, known for its moon-like landscape. Go early (7-8 am) to beat the crowds!
  • Tour of the fishing villages: Later, go on a little road trip to explore the STUNNING, picturesque fishing villages of the northwestern part of the island, including places like Mandrakia (where you can have lunch at Medusa), Firopotamos and Fourkouvouni. End your day with a swim and the sunset on the amazing Plathiena beach.

Day 3: Historical Exploration around Klima

  • Dive into the island’s rich history by visiting the Catacombs of Milos and the ancient Roman theater. These sites offer a glimpse into the island’s past and its significance in ancient times.
  • Klima: Below them is Klima, the remaining well known picturesque fishing village. Have lunch here, or a quick dip into the sea!
  • Sunset dinner: Head back to Trypiti for a sunset dinner, at for instance Bariello

Day 4: Beach hopping around south Milos

Milos’ south coast has some of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. With some very unique volcanic features!

  • Volcanic bubbles and sand: Spend your day at Paleochori Beach and Agia Kyriaki beach. On Paleochori beach, you can see fumaroles coming out of the sea bottom due to the volcanic activity on Milos. Also, you can have your fish cooked in the 120-degree warm volcanic sand!
  • A piece of mining history: At the end of the day, drive (ATV needed) down to the Old Sulfur Mines at Thirichio beach.
  • Dinner with the locals: Have a very local dinner at Ouzeri Zikos in Zefyria village.

Day 5: Boat tour to Kleftiko & more

Time for a boat day, which is a must do when in Milos as many of the most amazing beaches and waters can only be reached from the sea.

  • I rented a boat with Summer Stories at Fyriplaka beach, arguably the most beautiful beach of Milos. You can drive yourself to the amazing beaches of Tsigrado, Gerakas and to Kleftiko. Within 2-4 hours only. With my Milos Travel Guide you get a € 20 discount on the boat rental. After your boat hire, you can chill on Fyriplaka beach.
  • Alternatively, you can take a half-day or whole-day tour on a boat to South Milos or around the whole island. If you decide to take a full-day tour around the island you get to see the quite inaccessible west coast as well, with beautiful swim spots and caves such as Kalogria and Sykia.
  • Find and book the boat tour that suites you beast easily at Getyourguide. For instance a half-day speedboat cruise or full-day cruise on a sailing boat.

Day 6: Disovering the Northeast

Drive to the northeast parts of Milos, where many quiet bays and beaches are located that are off-radar for most people, as well as the famous Papagfagkas caves. You can make as many stops as you like, all of which are listed in my Milos Travel Guide! 3 stops I would for sure recommend making are:

  • Run to the ruins at The Ancient Site of Phylakope, where you can see the remains of a 5.000 year old town (check the opening times before you go)
  • Feel like a pirate at the stunning Papafragkas caves
  • Wine o clock: At 5 PM, you can return to Pollonia to visit the Kostantakis Winery for a wine tasting. If you want the full tour you’ll have to book it in advance.

Day 7: Kimolos and Polyaigos

North of Milos, there are 2 fantastic little islands that are worth a visit.

  • Polyaigos is an island next to Kimolos but is uninhabited. It has some amazing deep blue waters, caves and rock formations, as well as stunning beaches. To get to it, you will need to take a boat tour. There are many companies that offer private or semi-private cruises to Polyaigos, some in combination with Kimolos and the coast of Milos. Such as this one.
  • Kimolos: Kimolos is a tiny and very picturesque and paradisical island next to Milos. The main village is full of whitewashed streets with cobblestones and some of the beaches are amongst the prettiest ones you’ll ever see in Greece, such as Prassa beach. From the little port of Pollonia on Milos, it is only a 25-minute ferry ride.
  • Private boat tour with Venus of Milos: If you would like to do a private boat tour around Milos, or the neighboring islands of Polyaigos and Kimolos, I recommend you not to look further and book with Venus of Milos. With my Milos Travel Guide you will get a 10% discount.

Day 8: Relax and Reflect

  • Tan & lunch: Spend your last day relaxing on Papinikou beach in front of O! Hamos!, where you can have a delicious lunch without having to wait in line.
  • Museum time: For your last cultural activity, the Milos Mining Museum is a must-visit to better understand the history of this wonderful island.
  • As you soak in the last rays of sun, reflect on the memories you’ve made and the beauty of Milos.

In case you are a visual learner, I have summed up the itinerary in this video for you:
